Lockdown Lipstick. The Best Lip Products To Wear Under Your Mask.
I kept doing it over and over again. I’d apply my lipstick or lip gloss, put my mask on then have the following thoughts:
- I just ruined the inside of my mask
- I am going to look like a clown when I remove my mask
- Why do I keep doing this
Soooo…I did the responsible thing and dove into the world of lip product research. Here are the fruits of my labor. Turns out that matte lipstick as well multi-sticks are the way to fly. Regardless of what kind of product you use, it’s best to blot your lips with a tissue before putting your mask on. Without further adieu…
Ramy said to try his Afterglow Stick, $26. It’s actually great for your eyes, cheeks AND lips. According to Ramy, “It’s everything proof and stays on.”
Are you into metallics? For a matte finish, blot with a tissue after applying. If gloss is your thing, layer on a coat of clear gloss after it’s safe to take off your mask. Thank you Black Radiance for this beauty, and only $5!
Honest Beauty’s Liquid Lipstick is definitely a must-have. It’s vegan as well as matte, and at $14.99 you can play around and try a few different shades.
I had a chat with the lovely Sarah Kelly, Co-Founder of SaltyGirl Beauty and she said, “I wear all of our lipglosses under my mask. It doesn’t smudge, but some color will wipe off onto your mask. Our Jamie gloss ($18)has more of a matte feel, and works very well if you blot your lips before putting your mask on.”
Now, if you’re in the mood to treat yourself (or maybe you have a Sephora gift card that you just haven’t used yet), and you prefer something sheer, I’d say go ahead and try Gucci’s Rouge à Lèvres Voile Sheer Lipstick under your mask. The “Marina” shade is shown below, a gorgeous hue of violet that I think is just perfect for the upcoming fall season. A bit of a splurge for $42 at Sephora but the floral packaging is pretty sweet…..
If you’re like me and need a Target fix once in a while, check out the L’Oreal Paris Rouge Signature Lip Stain. This matte stain has gotten great reviews because it gives you that super-pigmented color that doesn’t transfer. And if you haven’t worn red before….go for it! I say go bold or go home. It will be the best $10 you ever spent.
