Word To Your Mother: Mother’s Day Gift Ideas From 8 Beautiful Mamas

 In Interviews

Shopping for Mother’s Day gifts during quarantine is going to be interesting to say the least. Many of us won’t be able to see our Mom or Grandmothers in person. And going out for a leisurely brunch with the family is likely no longer an option either.

So what’s a mother to do? Which leads me to my next question. What do you get for Mom on Mother’s day in the middle of quarantine? It needs to be practical, of course. But that doesn’t mean it needs to be boring.  So I turned to 8 beautiful mamas in the breast cancer community and asked them a couple of questions:

  1. If money were no object, what would you like for Mother’s Day? I mean….a girl can dream, right?
  2. We’re in the middle of a pandemic, quarantined in our homes. What are some practical gift ideas and activities that you can share with the rest of us, to ensure Mom has a fantastic day?

The results are below. As for the “fantasy” Mother’s Day ideas, I say we save those for next year. Don’t you agree?

Anna Crollman, @mycancerchic

Fantasy:

If money was no object, I would spend Mother’s Day on a gorgeous beach somewhere with my husband and son eating delicious fruit and sipping on Mimosas.

Quarantine:
In this odd time, I will be grateful to spend Mother’s Day sleeping in, snuggling with my baby, and eating pancakes that my husband cooks. Quiet moments on the patio sipping my coffee, and taking in fresh blooms brings me new joy. I have compiled some of my favorite gift ideas under $100 that I have added to my wishlist for my hubby.

I asked Anna for her top pick from her gift idea list and she said, “I think my favorite is the Mama necklace!” Well no wonder, look how gorgeous it looks on this hot mama.

Fantasy:
Anywhere but my house! LOL! I would love to get on a plane and go somewhere sunny and tropical —a place where my whole family including my sisters and their families, my brother and his girlfriend and my parents could all go and just relax and enjoy each others company! And it would be great if all the ladies could get away by ourselves for a spa day! That would be my dream!!!!

Quarantine:

If money were no object I would absolutely “request” a girls trip to HAWAII!!!!! Haha yes, I know this doesn’t include my daughter, Lucy and we are talking about Mother’s Day BUUUUUUT a girls trip is absolutely needed when you are a mom FOR SURE! Hawaii is my favorite place….the smell of fresh flowers, the ocean breeze and fresh Acai Bowls is like heaven on earth! Once there, we would rent a private Yacht and go sailing around the islands for a couple days, we would then come back to Kuai where we would stay in a beautiful home on the water. I hear Oprah has a house in Hawaii so probs would just call her up to see if we could stay with her?!! OMG TAKE ME THERE NOW!!

Definitely the Mother’s Day Package from SaltyGirl Beauty is an amazing gift to give Mothers…perfect for self care which we all know us Mama’s need – you can enjoy some Bath Salts, Body Scrub, lip exfoliator and a lipgloss — all amazing stuff!! For an activity, walks on the beach since I live in Maine or even on the hiking trails that are located throughout Maine are always a good way to get outside and enjoy some SUN!!

Fantasy
Simple time with my kids and loved ones.  Honestly having my kids with me is more than golden.  We tend to be so busy since my kids are adult kids, but during this time we are always making more of an effort to just be there for each other.

Quarantine
Simple things that make you smile.  Garden picked flowers.  A printed photo from a special moment.  99 cent store random pics, inexpensive face masks, something made, baked.  A poem, a letter, a jar full of reasons I love you.

Fantasy
If money were no object, I would love to have an all inclusive vacation to Saint Martin or to be more realistic… a new pair of diamond earrings or Tory Burch sandals.

Quarantine
Some more practical gift ideas for this years quarantine could be flowers and letting me sleep in and then order out food for dinner. Just spending time with my kids, being outside, and no cooking would be the perfect Mother’s Day!!

Fantasy

By this Mother’s Day, I will have just finished my last round of chemotherapy which spanned the past 18 weeks. In fantasy, I would love for my hair to grow back in for my Mother’s Day gift. In reality, I would just love a sun shining type of day, a walk with my dogs and to play a board game with my husband and kids. I would love to feel the sun beating down on my face and to hear my boys laughing.

I recommend experiential gifts like a virtual sound bath, a virtual tour through Paris or a family hike if your parks are open. Mantra Bands are my favorite affordable gifts and I also love all of the necklaces by SoulKu, I received when I was diagnosed with cancer.

Fantasy
Laying around on a Hawaiian Island, on a hammock with my name on it. A handsome island man fanning me, telling me his island life story, and of course telling me how amazing I am. LOL!! Oohhh and I forgot the amazing coconut drinks every thirty minutes. This is definitely a dream of mine and maybe someday it will come true, but for now Mother’s day is a true gift. As an MBC fighter all the money in the world can’t buy the precious time I get to spend with my amazing daughter, Mackenzie.

Quarantine
Every year my husband and daughter plan a surprise ride to a different New England location. We start early in the morning with a homemade breakfast then we pack into the car for our adventure. This year looks different in so many ways but adventures don’t have to be at the mercy of leaving our homes. This year I will let them take the lead and think of a new adventure that incorporates their imagination. Sometimes we forget the simple things in life, like making a fort in the living room or nerf gun wars, or even developing a vision board for our future plans. As mothers, we really just want to feel appreciated. So take the time to think outside the box for your Mom.. I would say that is the best gift you can give.

Thank you, Fabianna! Be sure to check this awesome mama’s blog out, fabulouslyfighting.com

Besides my affinity for really expensive house plants, the thing I’d like most on Mother’s Day is a time machine. I’d give anything to go back and have one more Mother’s Day (or any day, for that matter) with my mom. I’d take my kids with me too, because I know she’d simply adore them. We’d have tea, and cake and play cards and cook an elaborate dinner together for our family.

Quarantine
This year, I’m excited to spend a simple day with my kiddos. If the weather is nice, we’ll be planting vegetables in our garden. And if it’s raining, as seems to be the current weather pattern, we’ll play board games and start a puzzle. I’m also hoping to make a batch of brownies and some homemade whipped cream to top them off. Spending quality time together is always the best gift of all.
